The current climate in Britian is very bad, and this movie uses old-style anti-Semitism in its portrayal of a character who refers to himself as a collective member of the Jewish people. IUnfortunately my countrymen and women are being negligent, so the proof will be in the pudding.

  2. blackice1022 on December 15th, 2009 4:56 am

I really don’t understand the plot of this film..

  3. wideworldofbob on December 15th, 2009 4:56 am

Any proof of this? Is every movie that portrays a Jewish character in a less-than-glorious light (there arn’t many) automatically anti-semetic? I guess your answer would be “yes”.

  4. stevengerson on December 15th, 2009 4:56 am

Just wait for the antisemites, alive and well in Great Britain, to crawl out of the woodwork once again.

So you thing the education’s goal is only to prepare children to work in the design dpt instead of the shop floor? I think it is much more than that…
    Poor video, poor ideas.

  32. sleeper2345 on December 16th, 2009 4:08 pm

I’m not saying anything about parents in low-income areas. We know a considerable amount about how low-income students are taught. The focus is on rules without understanding, just like the instruction in the 1970s.

  33. PhilCopppney on December 16th, 2009 4:08 pm

I do not assume anything has or needs to change. Perhaps you are focusing on a symptom and not the problem. The correlation between poor performance in school and the disintegration of the family in our society is also well chronicled, yet you are convinced the salvation lies at the feet of the partial products method.
There was once “overwhelming research” proving the world was flat and the center of the universe, am I to believe that as well?

  34. asherasator on December 16th, 2009 4:08 pm

Giving scenarios & incorporating math isn’t interesting to most: “if there are 7 fish in a pond & a bear ate….etc.” blah blah blah. Math should be taught like the Pythagoreans where the numbers have real meaning, students should be taught deeper & shown where they apply (not just balancing a check book), Math can actually be the middle ground between religion & science, an alternative to both yet just as amazing. because math IS religion & science.

  35. asherasator on December 16th, 2009 4:08 pm

I think the main problem is the way math is taught, it isn’t ‘connected’ to things of interest in children & adults. With children especially aspiring musicians math should part of ALL music classes from elementary through college. I didn’t even learn of the Golden Ratio till later in life, if math can be connected properly & taught alongside EVERY subject the U.S. & all countries would benefit. There is so much that rely on math in all arts & sciences. Math should be the #1 subject.

  36. sleeper2345 on December 16th, 2009 4:08 pm

The problem of the lack of student reasoning in mathematics is well documented in the research, as is the disconnect when procedures are introduced without any connection to meaning. However, students can and should learn the traditional algorithm, building on their knowledge of partial product. In general, it would be helpful if students thought that mathematics involved reasoning and sense making. Will computer science continue to stay the same or should it change? I wonder if it should.

  37. PhilCopppney on December 16th, 2009 4:08 pm

You assume your research is accurate, I do not. You preclude the possibility you could be wrong, I do not. I do not want to go with my “gut” or what we have always done, I want to do what was proven to work by the results, not the research.

This is a quote from one of your posts -
“This is especially true in low-income areas. ”
Perhaps you are becoming entangled in the web you have woven.

  38. sleeper2345 on December 16th, 2009 4:08 pm

Don’t believe the overwhelming research in this area. The US instruction primarily continues just as it did in the 1970. Thus, we have generally poor international results. You seem to assume that math instruction has magically changed across the US, resulting in poor international performance. Visit some elementary classrooms. I’m in them all the time. Mathematics continues to be taught poorly, focusing on rules. Failing to believe research is strange, but I respect your right to do so.

I defintely agree with Obama.Me Being a 9th Grade Student, I agree with Obama, if there is no foundation of a good schools and techin our future is in jeoprady. No Child Left Behind, has its benefits, but a major problem is the stress on the standarized test.

  40. gabeblaze on December 16th, 2009 4:08 pm

As someone who is going to school with an end goal of teaching I can say I appreciate what he has to say here.

  41. jsb400 on December 16th, 2009 4:08 pm

Charging forward? Education right now is in the toilet, the economy is is spiraling downward, people all around can not afford FOOD, and food banks can’t even help them. Gas is out of control,” repugs”, only want war after war and to spill blood and to line their pockets with more money. YEAH, that is charging forward.

I think I will try Obama can’t be worse than Bush and McSame.

  42. driojas12 on December 16th, 2009 4:08 pm

derek rubin forgot to use his dictionary for “guarantee”

obama is nice, but nice won’t keep america charging forward.

  43. jophus82 on December 16th, 2009 4:08 pm

Freeing up the funds tied to the current war policy it would fund this over and over.

He also talks about corporate responsibility.

Those are just two ways to find funds if take the time to look.

  44. michelle1759 on December 16th, 2009 4:08 pm

agree with the standardized testing. I say keep it, but not with such high stakes. If a kid can’t pass in 10th grade, but their track record through school is great, they should graduate without a discussion about it. And these tests label schools underperforming when they are making so much progress. Last year my school didn’t make Adequate yearly progress because we were short 2 of the 48 objectives needed to pass. ridiculous.

  45. rhumbaphone on December 16th, 2009 4:08 pm

on obama’s website he’s asked how he will FUND education. he side stepped the question and instead talks about his ed plan. he NEVER mentions how it will be funded. He apparently believes that teachers are leaving because they need mentoring. The most talented teachers we have don’t leave because the job is difficult. they leave because they can’t afford to stay at these job and have a family. teachers should be making double or at least what they would make working in their fields of study.

  46. PhoenixAngel429 on December 16th, 2009 4:08 pm

I agree with Obama here. College costs are nuts. I had to change schools I was going to due to costs. I hate how that was. It hurts when you have to go from the private university you dreamed about going to to the local communtiy college and change the major you wanted to take due to the costs. I was a lucky child and my mom could spend time with me as a kid but not everyone is as lucky. Some families need both parents working. I agree with Obama and agree History and Arts need a chance too.

hey, teacher leave the kids alone, the bankers, stock brokers, real estate agents, car salesmen, telemarketers, and politicians need “just another brick in the wall” , especially wall street. How else could they afford the jet planes, penthouses, pimpmobiles, except by having legally consenting suckers work to supply them?

  125. yyeppesz on December 19th, 2009 4:08 am

what is signal to noise ratio?

are you saying book s are the most effective/efficient way to transfer information?

  126. yyeppesz on December 19th, 2009 4:08 am

ok if you’re talking about the arts…then yes. in art you are trying to capture human emotion. you are trying to express YOURSELF yeah give a kid a paint brush or a guitar and let him go at it.

But in the sciences how the heck are u going to do that? kids will spend years reinventing the wheel….they’ll never get past arithmetic on their own…forget calculus. mathematicians spent decades of their lives on one theorem. progress will stop.

  127. orbakustik on December 19th, 2009 4:08 am

hey yepesz, i think you are wrong by stating “Before children can be creative, they need to first learn the basics”
    because 1) learning is creative
    2) it is better to learn whatever subject by own motivation, in whatever ways you wish to learn
    3) it is a big mistake to think adults have to impose whatever the childern “have to” learn
children should be free to choose their subjects and activities

    “don’t medicate children”
wow way to go out on a limb.

Before children can be creative, they need to first learn the basics. In an all areas you have to have a solid foundation before you can explore and create.

Animals also reproduce so going with your argument then all the breeders should just stop then. Just because animals in nature produce young then that doesn’t mean that breeders should either.

An agrument like yours is only as good as it’s logic unfortunatley yours is flawed.
Lesbians can still have children so can gay men. Love is Love you can have love without sex like most of the breeders that are married do.

  137. brentthecrass on December 19th, 2009 12:10 pm

Another thing I couldn’t fit into my last post: Just because animals engage in homosexual relations (I am not saying humans are not animals because we are) it does not mean we as humans should. It is natural for wild animals to do many things seen as wrong by people, so by using animal homosexuality as a reason for human homosexuality, it can be assumed that you also say it is okay to do what else wild animals do. (including: eating of young, anarchy, public oral cleaning of genitals, etc…)

The American Medical Association, The American Psychiatric Association, The American Psychological Association, The American Psychoanalytic Association, The American Academy of Pediatrics, and The National Association of Social Workers all have one thing in common: They are not God. I am not necessarily saying there is a God but scientists are always proving and disproving their own hypotheses. Rarely does a scientist will say “I don’t know” so they make up anything just to have an answer.

Liking a guy or liking a girl are just gender roles. Something we are Brought up too believe is real. Everyone is more or less Bi-Sexual. You don’t have to play along with the others into fitting their standards of the “Right” why to conduct your sexual activity. A str8 guy can never “turn” gay, because it has always been a possibility for him as it is within everyone. He may Realize that he is turned on by his friend or another guy. You don’t have to live by an ideal. Hope this helps some. O_O

  156. Ervenger on December 19th, 2009 12:10 pm

two things to say. one, if you go by this video, that means gay people are like animals, and are inferior to straight ppl. and two, how can gay ppl be christian if God is against them. A true Christian, and not some poser, would believe in the Bible. Go to Leviticus chapter 20 verses 11- 15. i believe thats the chapter, ha it’s been a while.

  157. WhyIDrum on December 19th, 2009 12:10 pm

I still think it’s a choice. for example, how do str8 people turn gay then? If u “can’t” change ur sexual orientation then how do they?

  158. WhiteSupremacist100 on December 19th, 2009 12:10 pm

If you’re not a str8 white male who’s Christian, sadly ur fucked. I mean, you have homosexuals that will unfortunately never be normal by any degree of the word. You have Blacks who will never be equals. Nobody gives a damn about non-Black minorities either. They don’t matter. Str8 white females are the best females but sadly women are only good for sucking dick and pleasing their man is to sexually please the man. Non-Christian are fucked and doomed for hell.

  159. WhiteSupremacist100 on December 19th, 2009 12:10 pm

You wanna stay in my country accept that you don’t get equal rights. This country was built by the str8 white male. Ya’ get your dick sucked by a white chick, you dumb dick bitch. Get yourself a girlfriend. Stop walking around with your pinky in the air and a little prance to ur walk. That’s what women do

No person at Google ever reads your emails, part of their software looks for keywords and uses them to make the advertisements on the page relevant to you. If you want to get technical, your computer “reads” your files when it indexes them, some ISPs “read” your web traffic to prioritize or filter certain things.

Bottom line, if you are that worried about privacy then you should go back to writing your letters or start encrypting your emails.

No, the processing for indexing and searching would just have to be implemented client-side; with mail client plug-ins for, e.g., Outlook, and, for the browser, open-source java applets, like Hushmail’s pgp mail client, or even with javascript. Indexing would run in the background, using idle bandwidth while the user is reading, composing, or simply logged in, but doing something else.

i think its true to say that most parents want ways of providing education for their children. but you are then jumping to the conclusion that public education is freely paid for. these are completely separate issues and to conflate them is absurd. if interstitialofficial’s claim were true there would be no taxes.

  186. interstitialofficial on December 20th, 2009 4:09 am

@mrstrings2006 Schools were invented in Prussia in the 1800s as a form of people management. A society that would be prosperous in the new industrial society and have a good strong military is one where people are obedient, predictable, dependent. That’s what school teaches. The only thing you learn in school is how to obey orders. Growth and learning are as natural as breathing. It can’t be stopped, just perverted. It’s like walking and talking – no school marm is needed. Just supportive adults

  187. interstitialofficial on December 20th, 2009 4:09 am

@keybobrob It doesn’t matter that they’re this or that kind of teacher. No one learns and grows well because of a teacher, but because of stable and supportive home lives. Schools are day care centers playing at being something more. It’s the most radical social experiment of the 20th century next to the Russian revolution. Schools were instituted because of the industrial revolution, not because of an understanding of how growth and learning work. It’s not about education.

  188. interstitialofficial on December 20th, 2009 4:09 am

@keybobrob Sudbury schools are a Lord of the Flies scenario, huh. Did you learn that kind of argumentation in school?

It’s too much more a complicated situation, because we’re not talking about something that is a good idea in the first place. It’s like talking about prison reform for prisons that have all innocent people in them. There is really rather a bigger issue than whether or not there is monopoly control of them.

Start with a simple question. Why do you think coercion is necessary?

  189. interstitialofficial on December 20th, 2009 4:09 am

Most of them want to pay for it, because they think it’s necessary. If they knew that it wasn’t, they wouldn’t send their kids there, and paying for it or not becomes a non-issue.

  190. keybobrob on December 20th, 2009 4:09 am

PS…i’ve taught about a couple of decades in private and public schools…i see first hand the intellectual mediocrity that is pushed by administration in public schools…and i also know countless teachers who have no business teaching students!!!!…but the unions protect them. Unions are important TOO..but the question becomes,..what sorts of things should they really be involved in..the video makes a great point about teacher’s unions..perhaps overally generalized…but valid none-the-less.

  191. keybobrob on December 20th, 2009 4:09 am

    “MAYBE… its designed”????…

  192. keybobrob on December 20th, 2009 4:09 am

Thnx, thisisbunk, …seems that interstitial missed the point. Never ceases to amaze me how two people can look/listen to the same thing and come away w/ such diametric conclusions. If one were 2b unpartial it seems clear that ur overall synopsis is as close2 “dead on” as one could state. The video is not advocating an education version of “Lord of the Flies” scenario…virtually leaving kids 2their own vices..but recognizing that monopolies of this sort are anti-intellectual. Dismantle it!

  193. thisisbunk on December 20th, 2009 4:09 am

the point isn’t to free kids from school. that’s up to the parents. its about freeing education from the gov’t, and the people from having to pay for “services” they don’t want to pay for.

  194. interstitialofficial on December 20th, 2009 4:09 am

This is union busting disguised as school critique. As “school reform” there’s no logic to it. If kids can do what they want, when they want, at their own pace, then it’s a Sudbury model school. There wouldn’t be “school competition” when everyone is growing up naturally. The vid is calling for “competition” which is not a consequence of freeing kids from the school paradigm of coercion. You can’t have kids doing what they want, when they want, how fast they want and still use grades.

  195. beexsama on December 20th, 2009 4:09 am

Just a thought…I love your videos…but subtitles would be a plus, sometimes the video gets a bit loud and muffles out your voice.

  196. mrstrings2006 on December 20th, 2009 4:09 am

Grade school for me was so boring!

Maybe it’s designed that way to keep me from learning, from enjoying learning. For the longest time I didn’t give a shit about politics or economics or law, etc. Now all these things fascinate me, but I had to stimulate myself through self learning to LEARN to enjoy these topics.

“The last thing the government wants is well informed, educated citizens sitting around talking about how badly the government is screwing them.”

    - George Carlin

  197. neue99 on December 20th, 2009 4:09 am

Early in the video, the announcer mentions that monopolies can happen in the private sector, or as a result of government.

Ummm…. can anyone name some of these “natural monopolies” being formed without government interference? I can’t think of any.

Standard Oil, prior to the antitrust lawsuit, had plenty of competition and a shrinking market share. It was never a monopoly.

  198. lorerax1 on December 20th, 2009 4:09 am

Start thinking that we have to share this planet. Either we work together or we die alone. So it might not be your responsibility to save the enviorment or help the poor, but it might make logical sense to do something about it, b/c the poor could accidently cut down the whole rainforest. lol

  208. thedition on December 20th, 2009 4:09 am

Vevo works better than Youtube, its only laggy for you because your computer doesn’t have enough RAM to handle the program, let me ask you a simple question: Do you have to wait for videos in HD (or HQ) to buffer for a little bit before playing them? If so then thats probably the reason your computer can’t handle it.

  255. WoWMalazar on December 21st, 2009 5:45 am

Despite all the negative points I make , I do agree with the part when you talk about game developping and training to use different tools on the SL platform.
It’s interesting, however it can be done on loads of other platforms. Adding to this, the SL performance is very poor and makes it extremely laggy, which isn’t good.
The part when you talk about the architecure and interior design is good, because it’s truly a way to test some things like furniture.
However my mind is made up.
    SL is crap.

  256. WoWMalazar on December 21st, 2009 5:45 am

If you happen to teach physics and geography, SL is a good life to experiment? Are you joking?
    It’s a game!
Read a book or watch tv reports about geography instead of playing a game that so-calls increases your knowledge in physics and geography.
    It’s a game!
In a game, expecially one like SL, there is no gravity and physics laws because it’s a stupid game, there is no such thing as that in a game, otherwise games would be impossible to create!
    it’s a stupid, , dumb game.
Go back to ur 1st life.

  257. sl0wm0 on December 21st, 2009 5:45 am

you don’t even have to do that, looking at crap in this game is the equivalent of just looking up pictures on google. I hope we never rely on games like this to “educate” children or else they will all grow up to be idiots

  258. sl0wm0 on December 21st, 2009 5:45 am

lol yeah like this shit game is the future for education. You can get more educated by looking at websites on the internet, not playing some crappy game. Any teacher that uses or actually thinks this is a good idea for education should be shot

  259. xxxChubyxxx on December 21st, 2009 5:45 am

Hey great video, I see lot of people bashing SL that’s because it was way over their head or just because they have not tried it, to the ones that say, get a life, more like look for a way to expand it, VR is the future, and then you’ll have to eat your words.

    Peace !

The bit about the statue of Achilles is plain stupid. Are you considering it as a masterpiece? Bullshit. It’s a computer generated statue.
And the idea of following your glare, that’s what Leonarodo da Vinci does for his Mona Lisa.
And the bit about history and those roman drawings? Get real. If people want to learn about history, they can read a book, not play some silly platform game on the net.
So instead of contemplating this fake crap, go to REAL museums to devellop REAL culture.

I went to a montessori school for 5 years. I switched after 4th grade. It worked fine in CH and E1 but afterwards it went way down hill.

  281. tonisch58 on December 21st, 2009 12:56 pm

I am a Montessori teacher and it is the most awesome, kind education, respecting the child without restrictions found in public schools, if the child wants to speak they do not have to raise their hand, if they want a drink or go to the bathroom they just go without adult permission. This education is all about peace, does not sound like Karl Marx. In fact Hitler wanted Maria Montessori to teach in his schools as did musolini and she declined. You must have gone to a bad school. Sorry

  282. MsMegan1975 on December 21st, 2009 12:56 pm

Oh my, sorry for your bad experience. I totally disagree. I think if you spend at least 3 years in early childhood or early el in a SOLID, true Montessori program it teaches you how to learn and that learning can happen where ever. I attended Montessori school from kindergarten through 4th grade, and had no trouble transitioning to traditional public school. In fact, I loved school until high school. So, don’t discount a good Montessori program!

  283. ericedvid2 on December 21st, 2009 12:56 pm

They’ll probably stage terror attacks soon, then will come an American union(WW3 too) & a staged alien invasion w/Draconian-saviours! I personally think, having been to a montessori school, that although it was a beatiful experience, I was only there for a short time, and when I went to “big school” if you will, it was a completely different experience, there was pressure, deadlines, coursework, and it was seldom hands on. There is no point in sending your child to a montessori pre-school if you don’t intend on continuing in montessori, it’s a big schock to the system, a shock I’m still getting over!

  291. bilong92 on December 21st, 2009 12:56 pm

why do they use cursive writing? When they are older all they would need to know is how to sign there name.

I hope they are learning computer skills as well.

  292. ennead90 on December 21st, 2009 12:56 pm

I really like this video and feel that it showcases so many wonderful things about the Montessori curriculum. For example, there seemed to be a special needs boy in the classroom. Although the misconception is that Montessori is for “normal” children, this video shows that Montessori is for everyone!

I am now in college and I am very proud to say that I began my education at a Montessori school. I studied there until primary school. A year after, I transferred to a public school and noticed the big difference in the teaching style and the cognitive level of the students.

I long for the days in which I was able to enjoy learning in the Montessori way. Where I was able to learn things independently and at my own phase.

I’m special ed (ADHD) and I try not to let it bug me. It’s really hard to focus on things that don’t interest me (mostly algebra). I hate how I won’t go to special ed classes because I will be made fun of and be in a room all day with people that are usually far more ill than myself. I take normal classes to be normal and be like everybody else but I hate how stupid I look compared to the other kids. I’m always done on an assignment last and I usually do bad on them. ADHD sucks.

  382. robercik160 on December 22nd, 2009 11:20 am

  383. Ontario88Canada on December 22nd, 2009 11:20 am

i was in special ed from grade’s kidergarden-grade12, and people take my word it was a nightmare in the younger grades kids made fun of me for it and in high school u would here the other kids making fun of eacher other.(example: someone drops a bottle and it smashes his friend says what are u in special ed) anyway if u dont want to child to be discluded and made fun of dont put them in it. also the teachers are a joke…

  384. ZRANCIS on December 22nd, 2009 11:20 am

I’ll tell you a secret, what they dont tell you. ADHD is a mental blessing…a hyper active brain capable of far surpassing those with regular abilities. You think faster, and you think more, Math bores you because unlike most, you think faster, you think beyond. Find something that interests you, lock on, and you’ll do it better than anybody else. Algebra , and the entire school system, is made for those normal, the majority, to ’suceed’,,that is, make it into “normal ” life. u dont need that

  390. freetothinkify on December 22nd, 2009 11:20 am

The teachers are often horrible. I don’t mean to be rude but 1:1 doesn’t work if half is in the dark. Not that I’m blaming, but we should be separated so that we’re together at least instead of socially outlawed and taunted by even teachers at a time when we can’t fight back. Sometimes people improve. We don’t have a chance in that environment. I tried to drop to get a job, but since I was special, I was special. It’s cool. I know that I was really craving that amount of attention.

Stein called the subprime mortgage issue “T I N Y” on fox news, august 18, 2007…he’s not a financial prophet, he’s an idiot.

  400. Chess83 on December 22nd, 2009 7:20 pm

Also, check wikipedia, granted it is wikipedia– but the article on macroevolution has what seems to be solid references.

  401. Chess83 on December 22nd, 2009 7:20 pm

so what accounts for the differences within a species? What accounts for the difference in dog breeds, human from Europe, Africa, and Asia? In all of these examples reproduction is possible, but there are obvious differences.

What would Darwin call this? What do you call this?

  402. commandyou on December 22nd, 2009 7:20 pm

There is no such thing is Macroevolution or microevolution there is only evolution! By the definition of evolution the only things that have to happen are that a species changes so much threw mutations in the D.N.A that it can no long successfully mate with the ancestor species from which it came. Macroevolution and microevolution are words that have little meaning!

  403. LDWeyermann on December 22nd, 2009 7:20 pm

And yet, Stein’s idea of how the state of affairs should be goes something like this:

Stein: Why do the planets spin?
    Student: God did it.
Stein: What’s the capital of spain?
    Student: God knows.
Stein: What is 5 times 9?
    Student: God.

He should pick another subject to talk about besides education.

  405. Chess83 on December 22nd, 2009 7:20 pm

As I said, if you cannot be civil– good day.

  406. commandyou on December 22nd, 2009 7:20 pm

A group of people looking differently from another group isnt evolution. In fact in order for evolution to really work there has to be diversity in a population so that is evidence for evolution. I can assure you that macroevolution and microevolution arent scientific words. You can tell that they arent scientific words because they dont use any scientific ways to measure how much a species has to change for it to be macroevolution its all based on only opinion. Evolution is a fact!

  407. Chess83 on December 22nd, 2009 7:20 pm

You are avoiding the question– what accounts for this modification of a species while it remains a species.

Your definition of evolution is what I (and palentologists) call macroevolution. You can assure me all day long if you like, doesn’t change the fact that you can’t refute what I have brought to the table.

Your reason that they can’t be scientific words makes no sense– you are taking a scientific method and asking for evidence of it in the word used to describe the concept.

  408. diomedes39 on December 22nd, 2009 7:20 pm

he’s right here even with the stereotypes surprisingly

    Which is which? lol

  411. davidklausa on December 22nd, 2009 7:20 pm

@TheGreaterSatan Also, it seems his main point in any lecture/article is that people are stupid. I think that’s well enough established.

  412. Chess83 on December 22nd, 2009 7:20 pm

the exception to this evidence is of course, virii as they don’t reproduce with themselves AT ALL, but rather hijack the reproductive capabilities of the host cells which it prey upon.

I hope you can at least agree that your definition of “evolution” is what I call “macroevolution”

  413. Chess83 on December 22nd, 2009 7:20 pm

Now, you can continue to rant and rave that the mico-macro distinction isn’t “real” science but the facts are that Darwin saw the “micro” evolution and posited the theory of “macro” evolution. Your evidence you gave for (macro)evolution is in fact evidence for microevolutoion, or in your words NOT EVOLUTION as none of those examples involved dna radically changed enough to where it is no longer reproducible within it’s own species.

  414. Chess83 on December 22nd, 2009 7:20 pm

The underlying premise of neo-darwin evolution is natural selection, this is what I believe you referenced in saying a diverse population is needed for evolution to happen. How this diverse population comes about is what I (and some scientists, albeit not the ones you read) call microevolution– that is evolution on a smaller scale.

the difference between micro and macro is that micro isn’t the radical dna change that macro is, but it is a dna change none-the-less, one caused by n. selection.

  415. Chess83 on December 22nd, 2009 7:20 pm

Macro doesn’t have an evidence, micro does. Thus the disctinction. You yourself, say it “verges” on an outright lie– but it isn’t an outright lie, is it?

So what is it: a lie or truth? One or the other.

  416. Chess83 on December 22nd, 2009 7:20 pm

Nice try to put this back on me. I didn’t ask you to educate me, I was corrected a statement you made about “real” science. I have heard Dawkins himself use micro/macro distinction– yet he isn’t a real scientist I guess?

  417. Chess83 on December 22nd, 2009 7:20 pm

I do not appreciate your closing comment, “Now read a book or be quiet” Science is about discovering truth and proving it. If you are close minded and insideous enough to comment as you did to me, whom you know nothing about my views or even if I agree with evolution then you are a closed minded bigot and no better than the worst bible-thumping fundamentalist.

    Good day.

  418. Chess83 on December 22nd, 2009 7:20 pm

ERV is modification of an existing organism is it not a viral mutation– yet still a virus?

Fossil record shows a differation of species; difference within a species but no bridge from one species to another– does it?

Vestigial Organs – how does my appendix support macroevolution?

Atavisms – again, this is within a species: people are not reverting to apes.

the micro/macro distinction is used in “real” science. It is a distinction between minor and major shifts in modifcation.

  419. Chess83 on December 22nd, 2009 7:20 pm

Actually, these depend on microevolution which differs greatly from the macroevolution model which most people refer to when they say “evolution”

Macroevolution has little (if any) real evidence– microevolution however is proven science. It happens all around us every day.

  420. ruthven78 on December 22nd, 2009 7:20 pm

where did the evolution debate come in to this video comment….there was nothing about evolution, only history and two stupid models…..

  421. ruthven78 on December 22nd, 2009 7:20 pm

there is a lot of objective evidence, or should I say, the lack thereof, as far as evolution is concerned….going from dinosaur to chicken….yeah its a nice idea that chickens evolved from dinosaurs, you can certainly talk a good talk about it, but when you dont get are fossils of the intermediate species….you cant go from A to Z without including B through Y, if evolution happens over thousands to millions of years, then you would see intermediate species….which you dont…..

  422. PartyHardy17 on December 22nd, 2009 7:20 pm

  423. BillKiernan on December 22nd, 2009 7:20 pm

wow where to begin. you’re going to have to tell all the people in the following fields that depend upon the FACT of evolution:
    Bioinformatics
    Pesticide development
Resistance management (ever get a vaccine? depends on evolutionary theory)
    Fisheries
Artificial selection due to quantitative trait locus mapping (thanks to evolutionary theory)
    Parasite management
    Genetic tracing
    phylogenetic analysis in epidemiology
    ribotyping, etc.
i guess you “love” science unless it’s biology.

i heard of this song when it was the free song on iTunes years ago… and I have been in love with it and this band since. Break and Human, and Pista are all such awesome songs aside this one, which I find to be the best on the album!

I sound so freakin’ crazy here. :) But its basically true. You should watch the ghost whisperer version of this song, as they do a speed painting of her face while playing this. There’s something about it that is hypnotizing.

Hey, thanks for putting up this video, love the sound quality. :)

Why buy when you can get it free? Music should be shared with the world… Those that can afford it, buy it… support the band… those that cant… download it free… enjoy the music… Thats how my band is, and its what my band belives…

  478. chuckgobbo on December 23rd, 2009 8:08 pm

I don’t like Apocalyptica, sorry. I like this song. Understand? I wasn’t buy this album, sorry, but you allright. Thank you. Sorry my english, again… HAHAHA

  479. nefastbiatch on December 23rd, 2009 8:08 pm

Lots of metal bands work very hard to release albums, the life of heavy metal depends on it. If you like something you buy it, don’t steal it. Free download kills bands ! That’s my opinion, hope I’m understood.

  480. nefastbiatch on December 23rd, 2009 8:08 pm

Your english is not bad, I understand it, even if I’m french and as you probably can see, my english is not perfect at all. Well, if you like this song, buy the album (or buy the song on line with I-tunes for example), don’t download songs. Nowadays, lots of metal bands need our help to survive, every song of every band deserves to be bought. So everyone, please, buy albums ! and stop downoald illegaly them !

  481. chuckgobbo on December 23rd, 2009 8:08 pm

Nice. But, what’s a problem for download this song? (SORRY MY ENGLISH.. I DON’T SPEAK ENGLISH..)

  482. nefastbiatch on December 23rd, 2009 8:08 pm

I bought the album (and also the DVD) long time ago.

Cmon folks who dislikes this. Get into the future. You have the original, and that will live for ever. I dont think its not wrong to make remixes of songs. If ppl like it, thats swell. If they dont, ok. My own oppinion of this one is I think its a GREAT remix. One of the best Ive heard so far.

A suggestion that could create a lot of added value as Wiziq courses multiply. A simple option could be offered for each course creator to automatically convert the session’s recorded audio file (or audio track of a video file) into text. This file could be split and sent to Google Voice, which has a free new service to create draft transcripts. After the transcript was proofread and polished, they would enable students to do keyword searches and launch Wiziq courses related to chosen topics.

We are pretty much impressed by Wiziq so far because it is a free service and performs well as a collaboration tool. We are also learning how to get about doing some tasks. The more we explore, the more we find that it has been built quite intuitively. I guess every software takes users through its own learning curve.. so that is acceptable.

All in all a very good platform for the education world. Thanks guys and keep it up.

This is what the teachers and students want.

You can teach and learn live in virtual classroom with features like live audio-video communication, text messaging, whiteboard with drawing and writing tools, PowerPoint, PDF, Flash file sharing.

You can participate in live sessions on educational topics delivered by subject experts.

Yon can search for people with similar subject interests and share knowledge and educational content.

All is free. What else we need in online education?

see this and take their money to better schools. Our k-12 lacks this competition. That in addition to it being next to impossible to fire bad teachers here and you have a huge problem.

  642. lockdown260 on December 25th, 2009 7:20 pm

    @Nintendomanwill
Yes depending on you parents net income. But as you realized Harvard has a lot of resources and many alumni with very deep pockets. Federal taxes don’t go to unis here. Only state taxes. If you go to school on your home state you get lower tuition. The thing about american public unis that separate it from public high schools is that there is (even in state subsidized sys) a great deal of competition. Poor performing unis can’t fund good programs and students …

  643. Nintendomanwill on December 25th, 2009 7:20 pm

Financial aid? Doesn’t that stop it being a marketised system? I suppose competition is still open, but I wonder how deep pockets are over there to allow universities to have high costs, so they can be free to develop as they like, while always paying for students whose family earns under 60K. It soudns like you allow a market but pay to reduce inequalities of opportunity it might produce. Surely that costs athe public a helluva lot which sort of beats the point of allowing a private uni system.

  644. Nintendomanwill on December 25th, 2009 7:20 pm

Fair argument. Yet in countires where universities simply cannot attract the funding to pay for people’s tuition, society foots the bill and frankly, that helps make uni feasible for a lot of people. I totally understnd the point about state subsidy demarketising and removing competition, yet state aid towards universities (ie to help studetns pay for it) is necessary where you have many poor students going to unis that don;t have the resourcse Harvard can muster. Do they pay ALL of it @Harvard?

  645. lockdown260 on December 25th, 2009 7:20 pm

    @Nintendomanwill

Well If Joe Bloggs was bright enough to go to Oxford and poor at the same time, chances are (in America) he would receive a substantial amount financial aid both from private academic scholarships and the government.

  646. lockdown260 on December 25th, 2009 7:20 pm

    @Nintendomanwill

Funny that you mention Harvard in your analogy because as it turns out if either of your parents make below $60K annually and you get accepted Harvard will pay your tuition for you. Secondly, competition with other good schools would help keep costs down.

  647. undermyvoodoo22 on December 25th, 2009 7:20 pm

If they charged too much, students would simply go to another school such as Harvard or Stanford or Cornell. They keep their prices low to remain competitive. Perhaps you don’t understand how private schools work in this country because you do not live here.

  648. undermyvoodoo22 on December 25th, 2009 7:20 pm

That is simply not true! Yale can charge as much as it likes, no government organization sets a price. Yale provides it’s own financial aid, also, and makes a point to admit any student no matter their inability to pay. They are able to do this because they receive money in the form of donations/endowments and invest that money wisely to create more.

  649. Nintendomanwill on December 25th, 2009 7:20 pm

(continued) reach the top. Oxford would charge possibly as much as Eton or more. And peopel would still pay. They would take loans, they would have richer families than the average university student. But how could any Joe Bloggs go to Oxford, no matter how bright, if it would cost him more than one hundred thousand pounds? Do you think I’m overestimating the cost that Oxford would have in a private system? Think of how it’s mostly middle/upper class anyway and how much demand there is togothere

  650. undermyvoodoo22 on December 25th, 2009 7:20 pm

I live in the U.S. and the government’s infringement on our rights has not yet reached the level that it as there. The state subsidizes education only because the positive externalities of everyone achieving a certain level outweigh the enormous cost to taxpayers to educate them.

  651. Nintendomanwill on December 25th, 2009 7:20 pm

Nothing you say is incorrect. Nor does anything you have said defeat my argument: that if universities could charge as much as they liked, the very good ones would be profitable at a price which some people could ismply never afford. In such a system they would only have relatively rich people going to the best unis, just as only relatively rich people can afford the best things in any market. That is why to completely marketise education would lead to some people never having the chance to

  652. undermyvoodoo22 on December 25th, 2009 7:20 pm

Yale is a private institution and therefore have to compete against other similar private institutions such as Harvard and Yale as far as value for higher education is concerned. If they charged more than was demanded, then there would be a surplus of education and a lack of students in seats.

  653. Nintendomanwill on December 25th, 2009 7:20 pm

Through the state defining basic rates of tuition fees, such a situation is prevented. Believe me, I would love to break up most state monopolies and smash the bureaucracy. In the UK health care is now compromised as bureaucratic targets of financial prudence are the main goal for hospitals. Policemen make arrests for statistics. We are forced to pay taxes for institutions of great profit to their organisers, eg the BBC or Parliament. But the state must force education to be equitably available.

  654. Nintendomanwill on December 25th, 2009 7:20 pm

I can assure you that I have not forgotten that we pay for public schools and that due to bureaucracy and lack of freedom of choice, costs are greater than they would be for the LOWER end of a market system. But do you not understand that unis like Oxford and Yale could and therefore would charge a sum far, far too high for the minority of their applicants who are poor but appropriately successful. They are the ferrari of unis and the costs would go too high forwhatis a tool of social mobility.

  655. undermyvoodoo22 on December 25th, 2009 7:20 pm

It is very easy to get a student loan, so almost any poor kid can get in. As long as they do the work and pass their tests, they’ll go on and have the education to receive much higher wages than their parents did. You are forgetting that we already pay for public schools, just indirectly and inefficiently. A voucher system would simply create competition between them.

  656. Nintendomanwill on December 25th, 2009 7:20 pm

The point is that the market isn’t perfect and can’t be under any sort of economic conditions recognisable to us. If privatised then so many kids wouldn’t go because the cost would be greater in the better schools. The whole reason that we don’t allow all universities and schools to be absolutely private is that poor kids would never, ever be able to go to good ones. If HArvard could increase fees based on demand how many poor kids do you think could go?

  657. undermyvoodoo22 on December 25th, 2009 7:20 pm

short term profit motive… in education? the government should not intervene because if someone can profit by providing more/better education, than there is a demand for it. The short-term rise in price that would stem from privatizing schools would lead to an influx of suppliers -thus reducing cost down to below the cost taxpayers pay through school.

  658. curea229 on December 25th, 2009 7:20 pm

Not much discussion about race affecting schools…

  659. Nintendomanwill on December 25th, 2009 7:20 pm

Is his point that the extreme disparity between the rich and poor in the USA due to misguided welfare policy? If it is, he argues it well, but perhaps even Friedman fans like myself should recognise that short term profit motive could lead to deliberate subjugation of the poor by the rich, mercantilism, anti-compeititon, everything agaisnt free and fair competition and efficiency that renders everyone wealthier: ie the government needs to intervene to prevent that and they have NOT.

Hi, thanks for posting this video. I sorta know what you mean. It reminds me of the stories where you hear someone having just won the lottery, expecting to live it up for the rest of their life, and it actually destroys them, because they feel like their purpose, or their reason for being which may have been their job (which they most probably quit) is gone. I think its not so much the struggle of working to get what we want insomuch as it is the challenges we need to keep ourselves enthused.

Its like when you discover how much things around you are there to be discovered, youre actually able to see a whole new world.

tHAT IS NOT TRUE AT ALL. All elightened people try to do is find a balance, to seek a harmony with all around it. We do not cause choas or destruction. Enlightened people are passive people. We do not seek politics, we do not try and control anything. We are misunderstood, feared and threaten to extiction. So that is bull shit. You have alot to learn.

I disagree. Humans who believe they are enlightened and know better than others often start more wars, because they think it is their duty to decide for others on things that do not concern said enlightened humans directly. Result = Agression, oppression, resistance, war.

Porritts call will come at this weeks annual conference of the Optimum Population Trust (OPT), of which he is patron.

  756. candygir7 on December 27th, 2009 8:08 pm

Japan is backwards in technology? Japan is the most advanced in technology. The computer chips that operate USA jet fighters are made in Japan and USA has no access to this technology. So in the event of a war, the big and mighty jet fighters can be instantly disabled by Japan or China by remote programs.

  757. candygir7 on December 27th, 2009 8:08 pm

chomsky has sold out. he is also talking a lot of nonsense. “The system has a lot of stupidity, but it has a function” No criminal system has a function, it has a disfunction. That is why USA keeps looting the resources of other countries & importing drugs to destroy & weaken its own country & people in order to stay in power. “No progress except in science & engineering this way?” The is no progress in every aspect of life this way.

It seems more and more individual thinking and challenging theories in science are being suppressed to conform to the profit motive. Science and technology are now mostly advancing the interest of maximizing profits, corporate production and militarism. Science is in the hands of those in power.

It saddens me to know that you are seemingly quite a religious person… I thought this was a platform for social debate.. Let me be clear. I do not support any religion. 765. KentAllard on December 27th, 2009 8:08 pm

Thats why I’ve always be wary of things like Penguin Classics and similar imprints. Okay its been selected as a literary classic by someone or some group somewhere and it could very well be that they’re right – but how do I know how to judge it?

  766. PurpleWolvyz on December 27th, 2009 8:08 pm

where great attention is given to efficiency and character reports, and attendance at cultural assemblies is mandatory, where it is avowed that all will be administered to each according to his needs and performance required from each according to his abilities, and where those who flee are tracked down, returned, and punished for trying to escape – in short in the milieu of the typical large American secondary school – we attempt to teach ‘the democratic system’?”

  767. PurpleWolvyz on December 27th, 2009 8:08 pm

I cannot post all in 500 words so I’m posting twice, but this is worth reading. As Royce W. Van Norman once said: Is it not ironical that in a planned society of controlled workers given compulsory assignments, where religious expression is suppressed, the press controlled, and all media of communication censored, where a puppet government is encouraged but denied any real authority, ….

  768. dust4ngel on December 27th, 2009 8:08 pm

i have a friend who’s a phd candidate in philosophy – he told me that nowhere in any of the schools that he’s attended has the idea ever been raised that philosophy might actually have practical relevance to the real world. so apparently, that’s how.

  770. danaseilhan on December 27th, 2009 8:08 pm

The fact that we have both liberals and conservatives discussing this and using the same talking points should be more than adequate evidence to the political middle that something is very, very wrong. As for Plato, Shakespeare, et al, when in the world do public school kids study any of these? Shakespeare maybe… and inadequately. None of the others. By the time they go over them in college it’s too late for most of us.

    Independent thought* silly typo

  776. G33kz0r on December 27th, 2009 8:08 pm

I think you missed his point. He provided Bloom’s views as evidence for the socially accepted function of education — that is, subservience.

It doesn’t matter what you study, comprehension requires one to do more than repeat the thoughts of others. Comprehension requires independent though. Our schools propagate the contrary. Their goal as institutions is complete subordination.

We lose in this manner many eager minds to the educational institution and not to the cause of education.

  777. artiepipe on December 27th, 2009 8:08 pm

He missed Allan Blooms point completely. How do you become an “automaton” by studying Plato, Shakespeare, Rousseau, Nietzche, and Machiavelli?

  778. glenisah on December 27th, 2009 8:08 pm

This is the most honest rational explanation of what it’s about. Public Schools should have a disclaimer stating these very facts. I witnessed kids in my classes that failed varied subjects and still progressed to the next grade, so clearing it has little to do with intelligence!

I dont wanna blame anyone for this but i noticed that after coming here i got dumber. Im starting law school in the fall but i definitely noticed that I wasn’t as bright as I was when i first came here in 96. Don’t knwo what to attribute that to, but maybe its because the curriculum isnt challenging in the early stages of schooling.

  831. Uhjay on December 28th, 2009 1:44 pm

I dont have anything against Americans or whatever, but reality is people here are more concerned ith being a glamour model or something rather than something with intellect. Doesnt apply to all, but the upcoming generation and including mines has misdirected priorities/goals.

  832. Uhjay on December 28th, 2009 1:44 pm

if ure gonna compare America with developing countries like india/china etc. u have to compare graduation rates for those that do attend college. Its like comparing apples and oranges if u compare opportunity. Obviously Americans will have more opportunity for education. It’s still pretty sad that in a country as developed as the US, the condition of the education system isnt where it should be.

  833. Ironzealot7531 on December 28th, 2009 1:44 pm

I’d require a source before I believe that figure of educated Indians having the highest median IQ, and if it is the case. It could be as a result of India only educating a small elite relative to the rest of its population, where the US educates everyone.

That 60,000 American graduates a year figure if verifiably bogus, it’s closer to 3 million. I have no idea where you think you got those figures from.

  834. Ironzealot7531 on December 28th, 2009 1:44 pm

as to your remarks on American culture’s lack of emphasis on education, I agree. With tend to emphasize athletics and fame over intellectual pursuit, and I think it’s a serious problem.

That doesn’t mean I believe we should be as narrowly focused on education as Indians however. There’s value to having a more well rounded life.

  835. Uhjay on December 28th, 2009 1:44 pm

We know the system in terms of facilities etc is a work in progress but in America there’s a great discrepancy in the opportunities for education. I lived in the inner city i would know. Now go do something productive with ur life rather than having internet fights with people!

  836. Uhjay on December 28th, 2009 1:44 pm

even though you sound like a typical total ignorant westerner il respond to ur pathetic comments. Here’s a fact, India/china graduates 400,000 people from college every year..America…60,000. Heres another fact u mental midget…in a global study done by some british firm (cant recall name), among the Educated people of all the included countries, indians had the highest IQ-135-140.

  837. Ironzealot7531 on December 28th, 2009 1:44 pm

    yep

that’s because Indians Americans are the only one’s who give a shit about such competitions. Even other asians largely ignore them

your other comment is useless and not worth replying to

  838. GTomAlex on December 28th, 2009 1:44 pm

Average american cannot spell properly and will fall behind without spell check
And all the spelling tests in ur country are won by Asians

    Cheers

  839. Ironzealot7531 on December 28th, 2009 1:44 pm

just found some actual data on the subject

According to the world bank, fewer than 40% of Indian adolescents even attend high school, much less graduate

only 1 in 10 indian young adults will ever receive any kind of tertiary education.

for the record, 7/10 american young adults will at least enter college. Although only about 3/10 americans will graduate college

  840. Ironzealot7531 on December 28th, 2009 1:44 pm

    haha

Is that why fewer than half of Indian students even graduate from highschool? I suggest you find real data on the subject. Rather than giving me meaningless anecdotes of your own experiences.

One the whole, the average American is far better educated than the average Indian. Our system has it’s problems, and low standards are one of the those problems.

But India is not exactly an example of a nation with an exemplary education system either.

  841. Ironzealot7531 on December 28th, 2009 1:44 pm

they’re “immensely bright” because of parents and a culture that values education to the exclusion of all other considerations.

When I was a freshman in college, I had a roommate who was from Korea. All he ever did was study. I would study maybe 3-4 hours a day, in addition to lectures and assignments. My roommate would study for easily twice that amount of time.

The source of asian academic success is really not such a secret, and it’s not a set of habits I would wish to emulate

  842. Uhjay on December 28th, 2009 1:44 pm

the education system in india and asia in general is so far ahead of the west it’s a joke. My middle school teacher told us exams such as the ST ACT and the high school proficiency exams were a result of the west falling behind the east in education. Not to offend but America is a country of B and C students. Kids is asia are immensely bright for some reason.

  843. Uhjay on December 28th, 2009 1:44 pm

you sure about that? I was born in the population that was not in the “select few”. Eduction was still highly valued and demanded. Certainly, every country has the unfortunate that don’t get equal opportunities but even we in the rural areas were able to get excellent education. The facilities aren’t always great but, u dont go to school for the fancy classrooms.

  844. Ironzealot7531 on December 28th, 2009 1:44 pm

    bullshit

it’s “among the best in the world” for a very select few. Most indians have to make do with sub-par facilities and teachers who often refuse to show up at teach them.

I don’t like your attitude chakdemumbai234. You did not do any proper research (if any at all) about the “average American child” (and next time American starts with a capital a). Not all American children are bad, most are good. Our circumstances are different than in India’s, our culture, our way of life. Perhaps you should do a little more research next time. Just saying.

  848. yoyoyo931 on December 28th, 2009 1:44 pm

This is a response to Trident187059005. Ultimately, India is the most intellectual country in the world. Scientist have calculated an average IQ of 135-140 for educated Indians. In ancient times it was Indians who invented this like “Chess” “Surgery” and many complex Mathematical concepts like “Limits” used commonly in Calculus. I strongly urge you to rephrase you comment.

see indian kids actually want to learn progress and become something. take the average american child. they want to be a sport star , musican,etc.. not bad ambitions but they dont have the work ethic. they fight with teachers about giving them homework. about studying. kids should apperciate their education what is being provided. these kids show ot.

@SuaveSavant I don’t either yet I feel if a kid is only interested in one thing and he’ll fail everything not with that I think he should.

  881. Aleowiciuos on December 29th, 2009 4:08 am

The natural and organic economic takeover of other countries. Captialist, like Freidman, need a govt. military to pave the way for them.

  882. SuaveSavant on December 29th, 2009 4:08 am

That’s mostly fine, but I will say there is necessary education (at least defined by the AMA) that isn’t medical that accompanies an undergrad degree of, say, bio or chem. I don’t believe specialization is necessarily the answer. Freedom will decide the level of specialization.

  883. SuaveSavant on December 29th, 2009 4:08 am

What are you saying? Maybe your short coming is defining “education” so rigidly. The market proportions service with demand. If you want only a little education, a little education is what you get. If you want a lot of education in the range of 4 years and you have the funds, you’ll get that. What’s the problem?

  884. cpblackangel88 on December 29th, 2009 4:08 am

That’s why I hate the public school system. They teach kids nothing besides stuff there not interested in. I’m 15 great in history class where I have a 98% average. In Earth Science and Latin where I’m not interested, but forced to take I’m a 78%. Also the board of education in NY makes it so schools that teach what your interested in. And the private schools where I go suck, because not enough kids can afford to go there.

  885. Cyrus992 on December 29th, 2009 4:08 am

    cpblackangel88:

Yeah…education should be a exciting service, not a force…. Take a look at me… I wanted to investing and urban design for years…and should be in a school that trains and teaches fields that relate to those goals…. EARLIER!!

Public schools are not about helping people, it is about control and lazy work for administrators and unions!!

  886. cpblackangel88 on December 29th, 2009 4:08 am

Well public schools should be made just to give people job skills. Yet if a kid or parent wants more success in life. They should be left to do this.

  887. Aleowiciuos on December 29th, 2009 4:08 am

Certain things should be left private, however, i think Friedmans short coming is that there are many good workers and students who are not competitive. Many good workers want to put in their 8 hours and then get the hell out of their place of work. Many good students are astute enough to learn from past mistake and try not to re-create the wheel constantly. Something that desperately needs to be done now.

  888. cpblackangel88 on December 29th, 2009 4:08 am

I know the public school system is a disaster, because kids don’t like how they have no control and there forced to take classes and test they don’t like. If a 13 year old said I want to be a doctor. His parents should be able to opt him out of the public school system and get him a private tooter with maybe a few other kids. And all they teach is medicine and how to become a doctor and get into a good medical school and college. We’ll have better doctors and happier kids.

  889. Cyrus992 on December 29th, 2009 4:08 am

cpblackangel88: Damn right!! My high school Aliso Niguel should be first!!

  890. cpblackangel88 on December 29th, 2009 4:08 am

Not true. As long as business is competitive it’s better than government and it has to stay good or else people will just go to the other company.

  891. cpblackangel88 on December 29th, 2009 4:08 am

    Which should be eliminated.

  892. FUZZYisBIG on December 29th, 2009 4:08 am

Yeah, because th govt guarentees the money for loans, the unis can jack up the prices and still get paid for a crap education.

  893. nexus411 on December 29th, 2009 4:08 am

each lecture costs 35 dollars? wow, i wish i went to school back then wen u din’t expect to have to pay 6 figures for a sub par education

  894. Cyrus992 on December 29th, 2009 4:08 am

Private schools do have benefits, but they are still regulated by rules and standards.

  895. hyylo on December 29th, 2009 4:08 am

we have a huge problem in the UK England in education.

we have too many students that cannot read and write properly.

the education system in the UK is poor.

  896. JohnBreadForger on December 29th, 2009 4:08 am

    No one is saying that.

  897. mglacken0410 on December 29th, 2009 4:08 am

It is spelled “serf’, not ’surf’.

  898. ruary0 on December 29th, 2009 4:08 am

Yea we should make poor people pay for their education.

  899. Offatwork on December 29th, 2009 4:08 am

I would rather worship a natural power, unassociated towards human error, completely unbiased towards any race, culture and so on than worship a person who ultimately have their own goals in mind.

  900. Offatwork on December 29th, 2009 4:08 am

It’s not worship of Friedman, it’s worship of a very natural aspect of social science, it’s called the free market.

Please indicate ONE idea that capitalism fails to accomplish; besides big government.

  901. Aleowiciuos on December 29th, 2009 4:08 am

Well, it seems to me that the people who worship Friedmansim and the capitalist system are now being serfs to their own system. Either way, big business or big Govt is going to have similar effects on society. Both can be ineffective and corrupt when operated by ineffective and dishonest people.

  902. Offatwork on December 29th, 2009 4:08 am

Ultimately, you are sacrificing your freedom, ether way, for the state to have more power. You are voluntarily making yourself a surf, a simple peon, by worshiping the state. This is not to say the state is evil, it’s only, at best, a necessary evil.

Governments should be designed in a way to simply protect its market – not to get “in its business.”

    (pun, haha)

  903. Offatwork on December 29th, 2009 4:08 am

You seem to be confused with conservatives, the GOP, and Libertarians. Libertarians believe absolute limited government. Conservatives believe in greater military force, and Liberals believe in public spending. Both are focused on principle and not fact. Don’t confuse Friedman with a Conservative because you would be wrong. Tell me the difference between opression of the market to “prevent failure of education” and oppression of individuals to “prevent global terrorism.” Both are meant to scare.

  904. richardcadbury on December 29th, 2009 4:08 am
